๐๏ธ”Americans are so tightly wound, the way they kill themselves to get ahead. It’s no way to live,I tell you.”
๐๏ธThe story is metamorphosis of Anil who hails from small village of Gujarat belonging to a rich family and settles in Texas, America as doctor. Leena’s story is entwined with Anil’s though they were together in childhood, she goes on her own journey leaving house to marry. Both go through a lot in their own lives, but it was more like exploring themselves in retrospective ways finding their own identities. I like the part where they both come together in life right where they needed each other. Let’s not conclude that it’s a love story of Anil&Leena as it is not!
๐๏ธI liked Bhavna’s writing style as it connects to us strongly, especially Anil’s struggle to set foot in hospital, shifting various clinical departments to be a successful doctor or his acceptance dilemma of responsibility back in India or opportunity in America and Leena’s marital life with her trauma was empathising.
๐๏ธThe author I googled and found out that she has neither been born in India nor lived. She is born in Canada and settled in America. But her research and writeup with minute details of Gujarati village, sorting disputes in Panchayat or the lifestyle portrayal is commendable.
